Marenda on Maradona:
MARADONA : “I asked the referee for permission to let Diego, who was 10 years old, sit with us during the technical talks. He would sit on top of the ball while the coach was talking . Then he would take it out onto the pitch by the hand and it was a spectacle juggling. One afternoon, at half-time, we heard a standing ovation. We wondered what was happening on the pitch. We went to the window in the locker room and saw the brilliant things Diego was doing . I have lots of photos with Diego, when he was very little. During the week he came with Jorge Cyterspiller to training. Afterwards we would go to Jorge’s house to drink sodas and eat sandwiches. We were First Division players and we did things like that!
Francis Cornejo, the Cebollitas' coach, came and invited me to see the Cebollitas. When I saw Diego for the first time in the lower divisions it was against Boca. When the match ended I was amazed . Diego's father, another phenomenal person, thanked me for going to see Diego in the lower divisions."
