Miguel Ángel Giachello was born on August 12, 1950 in Zárate and was the author of one of the most important goals in the history of Independiente in winning the fourth Copa Libertadores.
From the same city as “Bocha” , he was the one who recommended Ricardo Bochini to come to Independiente . It should be noted that Giachello was trained in the Rojo youth team and made his debut in 1969 against Gimnasia de La Plata, a match that was won by the team from La Plata by 3 to 2.
Miguel Ángel was a skilled forward, replacing the great Héctor “Chirola” Yazalde . He played 81 games for Independiente between 1969 and 1973 (with a stint at Estudiantes in between), scoring 25 goals.
The most important goal of his career was scored against Colo-Colo in the tiebreaker of the 1973 Copa Libertadores final. El Rojo tied 1-1 in the second extra time and was left without the cup, but in the first minute, After a play with several rebounds, Bochini left it to him to define in the small area and celebrate the red crowd that accompanied the team to Montevideo.
