Story:
The first time that a Ferro team played outside Argentina was in 1908: against Central Uruguay Railway Cricket Club (predecessor of Peñarol), in Montevideo, debuting a long series of friendlies against this other team of railway origin . Different club teams later toured Chile (1943), Brazil (1952), Colombia (1956) and other places on the continent. In August 1982, the furthest trip to date took place: 7,392 kilometers .
Ferro played at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico, where four years later Oscar Garré and his teammates would become world champions . The rival was the powerful America . On the way out, on Sunday the 1st, the trip was made by AeroPerú and had a stopover in Lima; On their return, they traveled directly from the Federal District via Ecuatoriana de Aviación. The two companies have already stopped operating.
Ferro had just played against Huracán in the famous match in which referee Juan Carlos Demaro, unusually violating the regulations , sent off Donkey Rocchia because Ferro simply circulated the ball . That same afternoon, at 6:45 p.m., the players took the first plane of the tour. They arrived at their destination on Tuesday at 00:30 and the following night they played the first match with América, at no less than 2,250 meters above sea level.
Timoteo 's team started winning thanks to a penalty converted by Rocchia. Then Vicinio Bravo (headbutt from Carlos Barisio ) and the Argentine Norberto Outes scored. The rematch was played the next day: 1 to 1, goal by Cacho Saccardi.
According to the Guadalajara newspaper El Informador, Ferro received a cash prize of 25 thousand dollars for the tour .
On Friday the 6th at 2 in the morning, the players began their return . On Sunday they were already in Junín to play against Sarmiento. They came from being National champions with a physical condition that, if necessary, would allow them to go around the world .
