Franz Anton Beckenbauer (11 September 1945 – 7 January 2024) was a German professional football player, manager, and official. Nicknamed der Kaiser ("the Emperor"), he is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, and is one of nine players to have won the FIFA World Cup, the European Champions Cup, and the Ballon d'OrBeckenbauer was a versatile player who started out as a midfielder, but made his name as a central defender. He is often credited as having invented the role of the modern sweeper 

Tour Facts:

In 1978, Cosmos began a four-match tour of Argentina, in which Franz Beckenbauer was present as its most important figure, after Pelé 's retirement the previous year. The four matches took place in just 13 days , and in different parts of the country. The first match was played at the San Martín de Tucumán pitch , in what would be the first of two times that Diego Maradona and the Kaiser faced each other on a pitch . On that occasion, the Argentine youth team won 2-1 with goals from Maradona himself and Becerra . Chinaglia scored for Cosmos .
