Daniel Martínez Tapi ( born 21 December 1959 in Montevideo ) is a former professional footballer from Uruguay . As a defender, he played club football in Uruguay and Argentina . Martínez ended his active career in 1989 with Deportivo Mandiyú . In 2012, he was briefly head coach of Danubio .

Martínez played a total of thirty official international matches (zero goals) for his native Uruguay . He made his debut for the national team on 18 July 1980 in the friendly home match against Peru (0–0), as did Jorge Barrios , Sergio Santín , Daniel Revelez and goalkeeper Fernando Álvez . He won the battle for the Mundialito ( 1981 ) with Uruguay in its home country.
