Story:

He was born on June 24, 1911, like the writer Ernesto Sábato , but many people don't know that Juan Manuel Fangio wrote his first pages in sport on a soccer field. On the same day, but much later, two cracks were born: Lionel Messi (1987) and Juan Román Riquelme (1978). They never met, although at one point El Chueco was a colleague of theirs. However, before shining in racing cars, he was an outstanding soccer player in his beloved Balcarce and a member of the local national team. Having been a good player helped him continue in motorsports and reach the Turismo Carretera.

In 1927, he was inactive due to bed rest after contracting pleurisy. In 1928 (the year in which he also briefly boxed), he moved to Sportivo Mitre . In 1931, he also did not play due to his military service in the 6th Cavalry Regiment of Campo de Mayo.

He then returned to the playing fields, and his most successful moment arrived. It was when he made his first-division debut at the age of 22. He played for Rivadavia and was crowned champion in 1935, 1936, 1937, and 1938. Exact numbers are unknown, but it is known that he topped the tournament's scoring charts on more than one occasion. Therefore, between 1934 and 1938, he was a starter for the Balcarce National Team, which competed in regional tournaments with teams from other cities. Balcarce was part of its regional team with the Necochea, Tandil, Mar del Plata, and Olavarría (on occasion). The winners from each region qualified for the provincial level, and later the best teams faced teams from other parts of the country.
