Story:

The final of the Copa América Peru 2004 was the final match of said competition. It took place on July 25 , 2004 at the National Stadium of Peru in the capital, Lima .

Both teams had shown a high level throughout the competition, only losing one game each in the group stage. This match was the second South American final where a Brazil-Argentina Clásico occurred , since the first had taken place in 1937 , and there Argentina had won 2 to 0. 1

Argentina was ahead on the scoreboard twice, even shortly before finishing the game, but the defensive errors of a defense that had performed quite well the rest of the cup, conditioned the match, since Brazil tied at the end of the first half and in the last minute of the game. In the penalties Brazil was accurate, unlike Argentina , whose kickers missed the first two shots. Brazil won 4 to 2, thus obtaining its seventh South American title.
