Michel Platini's Juventus appeared as a clear favourite and everyone thought they would easily win the cup, but they had a hard time getting the cup. Surprisingly, Argentinos Juniors took the lead with a goal by Carlos Ereros 10 minutes into the second half. Eight minutes later, Michel Platini scored the equaliser with a dubious penalty. Once again, Argentinos took the lead through José Antonio Castro, with just 15 minutes left in the match. However, Juventus did not give up and at 37 minutes into the second half, they tied the game thanks to a goal by the Dane Michael Laudrup . After extra time , it was time for the penalty shootout , which would have the Italian team as the winner by 4 to 2.
