Jorge Alberto Taverna (born in Los Surgentes on June 2, 1963) is a former Argentine footballer. He played as a forward and made his professional debut at Rosario Central .
His first official match in the senior team of the canalla happened on August 22, 1982, when his club defeated 3-0 to Nueva Chicago in the Gigante de Arroyito , in a match valid for the 7th date of the Metropolitan . The centralist coach was Ángel Tulio Zof . In 1984 he achieved greater continuity in the starting team, although he left the auriazul team at the end of that year. He totaled 48 appearances and seven goals.
He then moved to Deportes Quindío , in the First Division of Colombia . He had good performances between 1985 and 1986, which attracted the attention of Independiente Santa Fe . With the cardinal team he was involved in a controversial event in the Bogotá classic played on December 16, 1987, when with the match tied at zero, Taverna, who had scored 19 goals in the year, softly and shamelessly shot a penalty shot , being stopped by Millonarios goalkeeper Rubén Cousillas . In an era marked by match-fixing, the event negatively marked Taverna's actions in that execution.
In 1988 he signed for Barcelona Sporting Club , a team that ended up firing him because it considered that his sporting performance was not up to expectations; Taverna initiated a lawsuit against the institution, which ended in his favor, so the club's headquarters had to be auctioned off to fulfill the obligation it had with the worker. 5
He returned to Argentina in 1989, playing first for Talleres de Córdoba , to end his career at Defensores de Cambaceres in 1992. 6
