João Antônio de Oliveira Martins , known simply as João Antônio ( Porto Alegre , June 14 , 1966 ) is a former Brazilian football player.
He played as a midfielder. At club level, Mestre João , as he was known, stood out at Grêmio and Paraná . He also played for Grêmio Maringá , Atlético Paranaense , Bahia , Mogi Mirim , Internacional , Figueirense and Joinville .
He scored the first of Grêmio's two goals in the 2-2 draw with Flamengo, at the Maracanã stadium, which gave the tricolor gaúcho its third Copa do Brasil championship , in 1997.
João Antônio left the pitch in 2000 , at América de São José do Rio Preto.
